Setting Up An Account
EquiVendor accounts are FREE, fast and easy to setup!
No! It's FREE for anyone to open an account on EquiVendor for buying or for selling. You can be up and running in minutes!
No! EquiVendor is available for users from anywhere in the world! Most horse items are easily shipped so please just ask your seller for shipping cost. EquiVendor is equipped to host horse and tack auctions worldwide, in the currency of your choice. If you would like a custom auction for your region or organization just contact us to get it set up!
Yes! EquiVendor absolutely never sells or shares your account information with any third parties. And our credit and debit card payment system is fully encrypted through Stripe for safe secure transactions.
Selling on EquiVendor
Create your first auction listing in minutes and get selling!
NO! Listing your tack, apparel, equipment, horse trailer etc is FREE everyday at EquiVendor! You pay only a flat 7% commission IF your item sells at a price you are happy with. Our horse sales have a small entry fee but watch for coupon codes at the top of our site!
With every auction you have the ability to set your STARTING price and your RESERVE price. Your reserve price is the minimum price you would be happy selling for. If bidding doesn't meet your reserve you can relist your item or decide to take a lower price. You may also opt to have a BUY NOW price that allows a buyer to purchase your item instantly without going through the bidding process.
Horse auctions are completely managed by EquiVendor for safe, secure, and smooth transactions!
Simply select which horse auction you would like your horse listed in - we will have general, regional, and specialized auctions on a regular basis. Horse auctions have specific start and end dates unlike our tack and equipment auctions that run 24/7.
Then choose the type of listing you prefer. The basic listing is $49. There are several optional listing upgrades such as top of search results or being featured on our homepage. Note - all credit/debit card transactions for listing fees are processed in USD.
Next fill out the listing page, including up to 10 photos and a video. The best quality photos and videos will make your horse stand out and bring the best sales price!
Once you submit your listing EquiVendor will add your horse to the upcoming auction of your choice. You choose your starting bid and reserve price. Your horse only sells if your price is met. You may also opt to have a BUY NOW price that allows a buyer to purchase your horse instantly without going through the bidding process.
Please include in your horse description the terms of your after-sale procedure, including any cost of board, Coggins and health certificate, whether you offer transport etc. In order to achieve the highest price for your horse it is also strongly advised to include a basic veterinary inspection document for health and clinical soundness. If you have xrays of your horse available to share with potential buyers this will also help increase your sales price.
If your horse sells EquiVendor deals directly with the buyer to collect the funds and issues releases to both buyer and seller once funds are cleared and the horse is good to be picked up by the buyer. EquiVendor will then issue a check or bank wire transfer to the seller, less the commission.
If your horse does not meet your reserve price you may request that EquiVendor contact the top bidders on your behalf to negotiate a sale at a price you are happy with.

Buying on EquiVendor

When you win an auction EquiVendor will add an invoice to your account showing the total amount to be paid, along with payment instructions. All auctions are entirely managed by EquiVendor, including payment processing, to assure security and a smooth transition for both Buyer and Seller. We charge a 3.5% Buyer's Premium on all purchases to help cover the costs of payment processing transaction fees and auction management. This premium is added to your winning bid. **NOTE** - for fraud protection purposes all payments over $500 MUST be paid by bank wire or etransfer ONLY, not credit or debit card. Once funds are cleared we contact the Seller on your behalf to initiate the delivery process. *Please also note that ONTARIO buyers only must pay 13% HST on all purchases.
Safety and security for all transactions is a priority at EquiVendor. EquiVendor verifies all Seller and Buyer accounts. Our Seller Rating and Review system allows Buyers to view previous transactions and feedback for each Seller so you can feel secure in your purchase. For horse sales, which can involve more substantial sums of money, EquiVendor manages the transaction from start to finish, including confirming clearance of funds from Buyer and funds disbursement to the Seller. We also issue releases to both parties which must be signed and returned prior to the horse being removed from the Seller's property. We are here to help as an intermediary when required to assist in communication and resolving any disputes.
Whether it's goods or horses, the bidding system works the same. The Seller sets the starting bid for their auction. *The Seller also selects the currency for the auction price so please note what currency you are bidding in! The seller may also set a Reserve Price - which is the lowest bid they will accept. Or they may set a Buy Now price which allows any Buyer to immediately purchase and end the auction without any bidding. As long as you are the high bidder and have met the Seller's reserve price, you win the auction!
When bidding you may bid as frequently as you like, or you may set a maximum bid price and allow our system to bid for you. Our auctions all have a "soft close" feature which prevents last minute "sniping" bids that can be unfair to both Buyers and Sellers. The soft close means that for every bid in the last minutes of the auction 30 seconds will automatically be added to the auction timer to allow time for other bidders to be aware they are outbid and enter another bid. The soft close continues until all bidding is finished and the timer runs out.
When you win an auction you are responsible for payment in full within 48 hours of auction close, or your purchase is cancelled and the Buyer's Premium is still due and payable. Failure to pay for an auction won will result in a negative feedback rating and repeat offenders will have their accounts closed.
